Moyock's rescue squad to charge for some services
The Daily Advance (Date Unknown)

MOYOCK - The Moyock Rescue Squad may now charge patients for its services.

Monday, the currituck county Board of Commissioners approved a billing procedure for the rescue squad with a unanimous vote during the board's regular meeting in the senior citizen center.

The rescue squad, which is run by the county, will charge $125 for providing basic life support services when transporting patients to the hospital and $175 for advance life support services. Advance life support services equals three advanced-care services like IV insertion, medication administration, advanced airway procedures and advanced cardiac skills.

The rescue squad can bill patients because it became an approved Medicare/Medicaid provider June 1, said Donnie Beecham, director of emergency services.

With provider status, the rescue squad can back bill for services it rendered up to six months ago, he said.

There are four rescue squads in the county and all bill patients. Comissioner Paul O'Neal asked if the squads could combine billing procedures. It is something that will be explored, Commissioner Eldon Miller Jr. said.

The new billing procedure will allow the rescue squad to send out invoices within 10 days of providing services.
